“Our families were in the same city and we still needed someone holding the thread. Wedding Day held it.”
Meghna and Karthik both live in Chennai, but Meghna's sister lives in New Jersey and co-paid the wedding, and she needed to see where the money was going. A hometown wedding can be harder to plan from inside it — everyone has an opinion, and no one is accountable.
We ran the Chennai wedding the way we run a destination one: a planner on the ground, a verified vendor shortlist, money in escrow, and a daily log — this time sent to New Jersey. Meghna's sister watched the whole build from her kitchen in Edison.
The thing that nearly went wrong: the muhurtam was fixed at 4:42am. The decorator's truck broke down at 2am. The planner had a second decorator on standby for exactly this — a hometown rule — and the mandap was up by 4:10am. The couple never knew.
The money was held in three milestones. The final release went out after the muhurtam, after Meghna's sister confirmed from New Jersey that the photos matched what she had been promised. A hometown wedding, run like a destination one, with one accountable person and the money held until the work was done.
